WHAT EXACTLY IS A CAKE PICNIC?
Cake picnics are a relatively recent phenomenon that is quickly gaining popularity around the world. The idea stems from combining relaxing and fun outdoor gatherings with the enjoyment of sharing and sampling beautifully styled cakes and desserts.
In 2024 an event was held in New York with over 180 cakes being shared. This year, the same group, aptly named Cake Picnic, hosted an event in San Francisco with more than 1300 cakes! A cake picnic event was also held in Malaysia earlier this year.
WHAT HAPPENS AT A CAKE & CRAFT PICNIC?
Here’s all that you need to know about what will happen at the cake & craft picnic and how it all works.
- Each attendee should bring their own homemade cake to share with other attendees.
- Cakes should be at least 8 inches in diameter (bigger is absolutely ok!).
- Bakers are encouraged to get creative with different styles and flavours of cake.
- Each cake must also come with:
- a disposable server or cake slice, and
- a postcard indicating the cake name and all the ingredients used in the cake. This is especially important for dietary requirements and allergies of other attendees.
- Cakes will be displayed on long tables.
- Specialty cakes (eg. gluten-free) will be displayed separately.
- Finally, as this is also a craft picnic, attendees can bring any craft activity they’d like to do whilst enjoying the picnic – painting, drawing, crocheting, knitting, etc.
- Drinks will be available to purchase on the day.

Nor are they responsible for ensuring supplied items are accurately labelled and/or free from allergens.
It is a requirement of entry that each cake or other food product is provided with a complete list of ingredients so that attendees can make an informed decision in regards to their individual needs.
It is the responsibility of event attendees to take any necessary precautions and make informed decisions in regards to the potential risks associated with consuming the cakes and other food products that will be supplied at this event.
